FANTASY OF VIRTUE / ALL THINGS AND NOTHING
STOCKROOM GALLERY | KYNETON | AUGUST 2018
Sehnsucht (German noun.) describes an individuals unfulfilled longing for an idealistic, unattainable alternate experience, it contains within it both the question and the answer to the very meaning of existence and can initiate within oneself a pilgrimage to the source of the universe. Fantasy of virtue / All things and nothing explores this universally experienced emotion in conjunction with the phenomenon of paramnesia (déjà vu); the distortion of memory in which fantasy is confused with reality. In this ongoing body of work Ország examines these ideas in relation to concepts of sacred space and religious experience, questioning notions of existence, ritual, pilgrimage and idolatry.
